Step by Step How to Apply

All Prospective Students should complete the following steps (except GAU Cyprus Study Abroad programme students who should contact the GAU Cyprus International Office).

STEP 1

Complete an Application Form available to download from download application form


 

STEP 2

Send the Completed Application Form by Email or Post along with copies of the following:

  • copies of all Passport(s) and/or Identity Cards
  • copies of all academic qualifications officially translated into English

STEP 3

Provided that the Applicant has:

  • submitted a fully completed application form
  • provided copies of all academic qualifications specified in application form
  • provided copies of Passport (or Identity Cards EU- citizens only)
  • met the academic requirements for chosen course of study

GAU Canterbury will issue a Conditional Acceptance Letter.

If the applicant has not met the academic criteria they will receive advice and be offered alternative courses where available.

VISA Requirements

Applicants who are from Countries outside the European Union / European Economic Area are classified as International Students and are required to obtain visas (Please see Visas & International Students section).

What is a Conditional Acceptance Letter?

A Conditional Acceptance Letter is issued by the University to all applicants who have fully completed the GAU Canterbury Application Form and meet the academic requirements. The conditions set out in the Conditional Acceptance Letter must be met before an applicant can be issued with Confirmation of Acceptance Letter and fully accepted on their course of study.

The Conditional Acceptance Letter Sets out:

  • the course of study which the applicant has been accepted on to.
  • the required Application and Registration fees.
  • the required Tuition fees.
  • the required Accommodation fees for the first academic semester. This applies where an applicant has indicated that they would like to stay in University Accommodation.
  • any remaining documents academic or otherwise including English Language, that are required by the University.

International students requiring visas also need to furnish:

  • a bank statement proving that the applicant has the funds to meet the United Kingdom Border Agency (UKBA) financial requirements. If the student is being sponsored this can be the Sponsor. The UKBA required living cost for Canterbury is currently £800 per month.

STEP 4

Once the Admissions Office is satisfied that the applicant has complied with the conditions set out in the Conditional Acceptance Letter, and evidence of this has been verified, a Confirmation of Acceptance Letter is issued.

What is a Confirmation of Acceptance Letter?

A Confirmation of Acceptance Letter is issued when an applicant has met all the entry requirements of a course and has satisfied all the conditions set out in the Conditional Acceptance Letter. The Confirmation of Acceptance Letter is proof that the Applicant has been successfully accepted on to the specified course. This will include the course details and specifications.

Confirmation of Acceptance Letters issued to International applicants on degree programmes for a period of over 6 months, will contain the individualised Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) Number. This is assigned by the UKBA to Tier 4 Sponsor’s in this case GAU Canterbury. The CAS number counts towards 30 points of the Tier 4 (General) points based system (see visas and international student section).


 

STEP 5 (International Students only)

Applying for a Visa

Upon receiving the Confirmation of Acceptance letter students should apply for a Visa to the UKBA at their local British Embassy or Consulate.

Please remember that it is the applicant’s responsibility to apply for the correct visa. The issuing of visas can take several weeks. Students should make allowances for this to ensure that they arrive during the registration period.

Once a student has received confirmation from the UKBA regarding their visa application they should notify the Admission Office.


 

STEP 6

On the first working day students are expected to arrive and register at the Admin Office during the registration period specified in the Confirmation of Acceptance letter.

GAU Canterbury can arrange taxi pick-ups from London International Airports at reasonable price. Students wishing to take advantage of this service should contact the Admissions Office.

Students staying in University Accommodation should visit the Admin Office to collect their accommodation welcome packs.

Students are not normally admitted on to courses more than two weeks after the course start date.
