Dear Student,It gives me very great pleasure to welcome you to the Girne American University at Canterbury. Congratulations on choosing to study at this new branch of the University, which opened in Canterbury in 2010.
On arrival at this newly modernised and refurbished campus, you face the challenge of achieving the sound standards of academic excellence traditionally associated with the parent University in Northern Cyprus, founded in 1985.
My colleagues and I look forward to working with you to ensure that you successfully complete your study programmes here, and gain your qualifications. We will provide you with a stimulating learning experience based on your own individual needs and employment plans. Our curriculum is designed to help you develop the vital skills, knowledge and personal attributes required for a rich and productive life in our complex and ever-changing world. Our staff members are here to help you gain the maximum benefit from all the developmental opportunities you will find here, both formally in the classroom, and informally within our international academic community. However, it is ultimately up to you to take full advantage of all these invaluable opportunities - to develop the love of learning, and ways of learning which are right for you, and which will stay with you for life.
You will also have the exciting experience of studying and living in the historic city of Canterbury, which is a world heritage site. The city has the highest density of students living in any European city, which ensures a vibrant student life, with plenty of interesting shops, clubs, cinemas and every conceivable sports and leisure facility. The capital city of London, with its numerous attractions, is only a brief train ride away, as are Dover, the gateway to all the European countries, and the Channel Tunnel at Folkestone.
I wish you every success in your studies and your stay here in the United Kingdom.
